Application Criteria

The Bernice and Leroy Hill Academic Athlete Scholarship was established in 2009 by Tony and his family to honor Tony's parents who were great supporters of African American scholar athletes. Each year, one student will be selected that meets the requirements below and exemplifies the true meaning of a scholar athlete.

Award Amount: $1000

Scholarship Requirements:

1. African American college bound athlete
2. Long Beach Poly Senior student athlete
3. G.P.A.: 2.5 or higher.
4. Must have participated in sports for 2 or more years at the high school level.
5. Must participate in extracurricular activities.
6. Must be able to prove a commitment to the community through verifiable community work.
7. Must apply to, be accepted, and thusly enroll into a college/university or vocational program. If awarded student does not enroll in and attend the first semester, money will be forfeited and will remain in the fund.
8. Must be available for an interview by Tony and/or the Board of Directors of the Scholarship.
9. Each year, essay questions will be posted with guidelines.
